The Ar'kala-class Tactical Warbird is a Tier 4 (Level 30) Warbird which may be flown by Romulan Republic characters, as well as characters of any other faction. The faction restrictions of this starship can be removed by having a level 65 KDF character or by purchasing the Cross Faction Flying unlock from the Zen Store.
Players can obtain this starship from any Ship and Shuttle Requisitions officer for 150,000 . This ship was previously available on its own from the Zen Store; players that purchased it from there can still reclaim it from there on all their characters.
Although the Romulan Republic's fleet was launched with repurposed ships from the Romulan Star Empire, Republic leaders quickly saw the need to design their own starships. One of the first ship designs to come out of the New Romulus Shipyards were the Ar'kif-class and Ar'kala-class Tactical Warbirds.
The Tactical Warbird class of vessels takes many of their design cues from the existing Escorts, Raptors and Destroyers of their allies. A sleek ship designed primarily for combat, the Ar'kala class is a variant of the Ar'kif Tactical Warbird. It has the look of classic Romulan ship designs, but the punch needed for ship captains battling the Tal Shiar or the mysterious Elachi.
Ships of this class are smaller and more agile than the D'deridex class – more similar in size to Starfleet's Akira class. With most of its weapons in the front, the design of the Tactical Warbird emphasizes forward aggressiveness with hawk-like, forward swept wings that flow smoothly into the front of the ships.

The Ar'kif class shares design principles with newer Romulan ships, such as a more evenly-spaced double-wing design, slightly downward-slanted wings, and a more rounded "head" section. The trailing edges of the wings are corrugated to show a "feathered" silhouette.

The Ar'kala class showcases elements present in other refits: silver-colored armor plating, smoother and more prominent wing design, and more prominent warp nacelles. The ship lacks "feathered" silhouette along its wings' rear edges. Its forward deflector array is also more visible.

Outfitted for battle, the Jhu'ael class looks much more aggressive and sharp-edged than its predecessor. The Jhu'ael has prominent weapon pods designed to accommodate Plasma Quad Cannons, as well as a forward beam emitter to fire the Focused Singularity Beam.
The Ar'kala Tactical Warbird doesn't come equipped with any universal consoles.
However, it can equip [Console - Universal - Focused Singularity Modulator] which, alongside Ar'Kala's [Plasma Quad Cannons [Dmg]x3], forms the Enhanced Plasma Infusion Set. This console is obtainable with Ar'Kif Tactical Carrier Warbird Retrofit (T5). For each console added after the first, an additional passive bonus is unlocked.
Despite being an Ar'Kif variant, Jhu'ael Tactical Carrier Warbird (T6)'s [Console - Universal - Destabilized Tachyon Emitters] cannot be equipped on this vessel.
The Ar'kala-class Tactical Warbird has a battle cloak that allows the ship to cloak during combat, granting stealth and a damage bonus upon decloaking.
As a Romulan Warbird, the Ar'kala-class Tactical Warbird comes with built-in Singularity abilities. These abilities do not automatically rank up when acquiring higher tier Warbirds. These powers build in severity based on the charge built up by the ship's Singularity Core.
The Ar'kala Tactical Warbird comes equipped with the [Plasma Quad Cannons [Dmg]x3] which draw power from ship's engines to deal massive damage. These cannons scale with the player and may be equipped on any ship supporting cannons. However, only one Quad Cannon may be equipped per ship.
Romulan starships come with standard equipment and weapons of the lowest mark available at the ship's minimum rank. The items provided are appropriate to the type of vessel and its related playing style.
