Bridge officer traits

Behaving much like player traits, Bridge Officer traits (or BOff traits) grant space or ground bonuses (in rare cases ground abilities) to your bridge officers. Almost all BOff traits have a player trait-counterpart, with both versions usually providing the identical type bonus. Each BOff has four traits, which, unlike player traits, cannot be altered. Space traits are only active if the BOff is assigned to a station, likewise ground traits are only active while the BOff is on the away team.

A specific property of BOff traits are their three potencies:

• "Basic": 50% bonus
• "Standard": 100% bonus
• "Superior": 150% bonus

Potencies are determined by the BOff's quality/rarity:

Depending on the BOff's species, between one and four (i.e., all) traits are "required". These traits automatically come in Standard potency and are always found with an officer of a specific species.

Pecularities

Some officers have their rarity change upon commission due to their trait allotment, due to 2 factors:

1. The system that generates bridge officer candidate traits considers Standard space traits (eg. Efficient) to be as valuable as Superior, and so will replace a Superior trait with one rather than a Basic or Standard.
2. The system that generates the rarity of a bridge officer upon commission treats certain Standard ground traits (eg. Reptilian Strength) to be Basic.

This does not effect their performance, and is only a display issue. Some examples of the effects this can have:

• On bridge officers that can generate space traits, due to the space trait replacing a superior or standard trait, commissioning them will cause the officer to drop one or two levels of quality. This most easily affects Letheans. Examples:
  • A Very Rare Lethean with Efficient, Telepathic, Rapture and Superior Creativity will become Rare, because Efficient replaced a Superior trait.
  • A Rare or Uncommon Lethean with Efficient, Telepathic, Rapture and Basic Creativity will become Common, because Efficient replaced a Superior trait for the Rare one, or a Standard trait for the Uncommon one.
• On bridge officers with Reptilian Strength required, it will count as Basic. This most easily affects Gorn. Examples:
  • A Rare Gorn with Reptilian Strength, Resilient, Cold Blooded and Superior Aggression will stay Rare, because Reptilian Strength replaced a Basic trait. A Very Rare Gorn with the same traits will become Rare because in that case, the three locked traits prevented a second Superior trait from generating.
  • An Uncommon Gorn with Reptilian Strength, Resilient, Cold Blooded and Aggressive will stay Uncommon, because Reptilian Strength replaced a Basic trait.
  • A Common Gorn with Reptilian Strength, Resilient, Cold Blooded and Bite will become Uncommon.
  • A Common Gorn with Reptilian Strength, Resilient, Cold Blooded and Basic Soldier will stay Common.
• Saurian officers are affected by both the above:
  • A Very Rare Saurian officer with Efficient, Reptilian Strength, Natural Immunities and Superior Creativity will become Rare, because Efficient replaced a Superior trait.
  • A Rare or Uncommon Saurian with Efficient, Reptilian Strength, Natural Immunities and Basic Creativity will become Common, because Efficient replaced a Superior trait, and Reptilian Strength counts as Basic.
  • An Uncommon Saurian with Reptilian Strength, Natural Immunities, Lucky and Basic Creativity will become Common, because Reptilian Strength counts as Basic.
