:::::Not saying that's not sensible, but how many pages would we need to re-direct versus modifying this template to call on a fed icon when the TOS icon doesn't exist? Seems like a lot more effort when we can essentially make the template do that for us.--LordTrekie <small>(talk)</small> 01:16, 26 June 2018 (UTC)

::::::My understanding was that checking for the existence of a file was more expensive server-side (since it's a parse), though if I'm wrong, then yeah that'd be fine. DanPMK (talk) 13:24, 26 June 2018 (UTC)

:::::::To be fair, that is what it says on the mediawiki page about parser functions, however, the way I set up the 'new' template would lead me to think that is fairly harmless in this instance since it's strictly looking for each icon once (or twice in the case of the TOS one now), or defaulting to the no icon icon. I'm no server guru, but that doesn't seem too impactful, especially when I'm only seeing two strictly TOS ability icons in the game files, Medical Tricorder, and Hypospray Dylovene. --LordTrekie <small>(talk)</small> 14:48, 26 June 2018 (UTC)

Same as with that other icon, this ability doesn't actually have a TOS unique icon. --LordTrekie (talk) 23:03, 25 June 2018 (UTC)

Can you think of a way to make Template:Ability icons show TOS icon only when it exists? We would delete all TOS icons that are not unique, and leave the ones that don't look the same as 25th century fed icons. This is a possible solution to this problem. --Damixon (talk) 23:41, 25 June 2018 (UTC)
I'll get to work on that tonight/tomorrow, will update Template_talk:Ability_icons when it's ready.--LordTrekie (talk) 00:08, 26 June 2018 (UTC)
Ok, if there will be issues with color lines below icons, we could swap TOS and Dominion icon positions. --Damixon (talk) 00:35, 26 June 2018 (UTC)
Going the Extra Mile icon

Image redirect!

For the record guys, you can use page redirection on images as well. When I was making the Jem'Hadar page, I made File:Going_the_Extra_Mile_icon.png redirect to File:Mastery trait going the extra mile.png, and it properly shows up when I used it via Template:Traiticon2. As a specific example, the image to the right of my comment is coded:

So I think we can just have all the non-unique TOS (and cross-faction) icons redirect and not muck about with the template as much, at least, not the ability icons one. DanPMK (talk) 00:54, 26 June 2018 (UTC)
