The Great Bloom System, also known as the Bassen Rift, is a region located in the Hobus Sector of the Beta Quadrant, known to interfere with long-range communications for vessels traveling through it. The Great Bloom is a the spatial anomaly resulting from the explosion of Shinzon's thalaron weapon in 2379 (Star Trek: Nemesis).
System Description[]
The Bassen Rift is a dense nebula field that disrupts subspace communications. Romulans call this area of space the "Great Bloom," in honor of the many greenish clouds, and the name has been picked up by Starfleet pilots.
In 2379, the rift was the site of a battle between the U.S.S. Enterprise-E and the Reman ship Scimitar, commanded by Shinzon, a clone of Jean-Luc Picard who had seized control of the Romulan Star Empire.
History[]
- In 2379 the U.S.S. Enterprise-E was ambushed by the Scimitar in the Great Bloom and was forced to fight for survival along with the I.R.W. Valdore and another Mogai-class warbird. The Scimitar was ultimately destroyed with all hands, releasing a large amount of thalaron radiation in the process.
Missions formerly involved[]
- “Ghost Ship”: The player monitors the growth of thalaron radiation clouds that could threaten nearby worlds. While there they find the U.S.S. Warwick adrift with its entire crew dead.
Notes[]
- Relocated with release of Season Ten: The Iconian War on April 21, 2015 from Tarod Sector to Hobus Sector.
