Federation[ | ]
<rank>, what do you know about the Borg nanovirus?
The Borg aren't just assimilating individuals anymore. They've found a way to assimilate entire areas. They infect the technology, the water, the flora ... even the air. After that, it's only a matter of time until the entire planet is Borg.
If this process is allowed to continue unchecked, they'll assimilate the entire sector. And from there? They could assimilate the entire Federation.
Starfleet has a team working on a counteragent on Omicron Kappa II. We lost contact with them, and with the entire planet. We fear that the nanovirus escaped confinement and infected the planet.
We need that team and the data they have collected. Our defense plans are useless without them.
I need the <ship name> to the Omicron Kappa system. Find the researchers and bring them back.
I don't need to tell you how dangerous this is, <rank>. Watch your back ... and good luck.

If this process is allowed to continue unchecked, they'll assimilate the entire sector. And from there? They could assimilate the entire Federation, the Klingons ... everyone. You've seen what happens when Borg technology is used to bad ends.
Starfleet has a team working on a counteragent on Omicron Kappa II. However, Starfleet has lost contact with the colony. They fear that the nanovirus escaped confinement and the colony has been assimilated.
We need that team and the data they have collected. Our defense plans are useless without them.
I need you to take the <ship name> to the Omicron Kappa system. Find the researchers and bring them back.
I don't need to tell you how dangerous this is, <rank>. Watch your back ... and may the Elements watch over you with favor.

Notes[ | ]
- New episode released as part of Season Nine: A New Accord on April 22, 2014 and integrated into the revamped episode Borg Advance, combining the previous episodes Borg Collective and Undine Advance.
- A Gathering Darkness is a significantly reworked version of the previous Borg Collective missions “Asset Recovery” and “Collateral Damage”, drawing heavily from the former, while only using few elements from the latter. The mission got a new storyline, included into a complete revamp of the ground map, used in the three reworked sections The Rescue, Viral Solution, and Unexpected Visitors. Most of the previous space map sections (Enemy Squared, Bombardment, Safe Passage, Portal) have been removed from game, only retaining Insertion, and adding the Pursuit cutscene ending.
- With removal of the Hotep IV ground map, the Assimilation Acquittal story accolade was removed from game. The Cybernetic Cure-All story accolade however is still available from the new Omicron Kappa II ground map.
- With the release of Season Ten: The Iconian War, the mission's start point was moved and renamed from Kessik IV to Omicron Kappa II.
