In Crack In the Mirror, the player helps the crew of Deep Space 9 fight off an invasion from the mirror universe.
Summary[]
The walls between our world and the Mirror Universe are breaking down, and DS9 will be the first battlefield.
Synopsis[]
The player is asked to locate DS9's chief engineer, Commander Maxwell, and help him stop a series of malfunctions around the station. Upon beaming into the cargo ring, the player finds Maxwell's corpse and discovers a Terran Empire strike force has boarded the station and is installing devices to disable its defenses. Once the teams are all down and the devices are deactivated, Captain James Kurland alerts the player to an incoming enemy task force. The player returns to their ship.
Outside, the player must defeat a squad of enemy frigates and prevent two Troop Transports from docking at DS9. Once this is done, the player's bridge officers determine that the Terran ships came from Bajor VII. After warping to the planet, they find four enemy cruisers and a squadron of Peregine-class fighters protecting an enemy-occupied mining station. The player defeats the enemy ships and beams down to the facility.
The player fights their way through the Imperial forces guarding the base, discovering along the way that they are stealing silithium: an element known to be potentially capable of altering the Bajoran wormhole if the two ever come into contact. Eventually the away team reaches the center of the station where they encounter Captain James O'Brien, son of the deposed Miles "Smiley" O'Brien and current leader of the Empire. O'Brien briefly taunts the player before beaming to his flagship, I.S.S. Molly, which is hidden in orbit.
The player returns to their ship, which comes under attack from three frigates to cover Molly's escape. After fighting them off, the player follows Molly to DS9 and destroys two enemy cruisers before engaging the battleship directly. O'Brien's ship is eventually destroyed, but not before it can launch three Danube-class runabouts (I.S.S. Hydaspes, I.S.S. Vistula, and I.S.S. Delaware) loaded with silithium to redirect the wormhole to the mirror universe and allow thousands of Terran ships to invade. The player manages to destroy them all, and scans the wormhole to see if there is any damage.
The player is suddenly contacted by a Prophet (taking the form of Danna Brott) who informs them that the Orb of Possibilities must be exchanged with its mirror counterpart to bring the two universes back into balance. The player is returned to their bridge and reports to their mission contact (either Kurland or S'taass).

Mission Text[]
Federation[]
Hello, <rank>. I'm short-handed and I need some help.
We've been experiencing intermittent power failures in half a dozen systems today. Internal communications and sensors are down, and we've got forcefields popping up in odd places.
DS9 is an old station, but this is getting ridiculous!
All my Engineering teams are out fixing problems. I need my Chief Engineer in Ops to coordinate the repairs, but he went to the docking ring more than an hour ago to fix a fused power coupling and now I can't reach him.
Will you go find Commander Maxwell and escort him to Ops? I'd really appreciate the assistance.
Klingon[]
Rank, this station has been experiencing odd power failures and sudden force field appearances for several hours now. Captain Kurland isn't giving me any information, but his senior officer are suddenly very busy.
I want to know what's going on. Chief Engineer Maxwell has been gone for two hours, and there are no signs of the problems abating. Head to the cargo ring and see if you can find out what's happening.
Romulan (Federation-aligned)[]

Would you mind hunting down Commander Maxwell for me? The computer registers his combadge out on the ring. I know it's a bit of a chore, but at least it should be pretty straightforward.

- Crack in the Mirror was one of the missions in the game that allowed Federation Characters the ability to earn the Federation Fail, Wanted by Section 31 and Scourge of Starfleet Accolades. As of Legacy of Romulus, this is no longer the case.
- It was also the only story mission in the game that offered Federation Characters the ability to earn the Blooded, War Hero, Order of the Bat'leth Accolades. The only other mission known to give Federation players these accolades is “Mirror Universe Incursion”. The three Terran Ships during O'Brien's Folly counted towards the accolades, even though the ships do have an I.S.S. prefix. It has never been confirmed if this was a bug.
- With the release of Delta Rising, players gain access to a new question towards the Prophets, asking them of the Iconians, who warn them of their Heralds.
