Notes[]
- Field Promotions is the third mission of the revamped Federation tutorial, released with Season Eight: The Sphere in 2013. It received further enhancements in 2022, with Season Twenty-six: Stormfall. These changes include but may not be limited to:
- Map improvements to improve its visual fidelity.
- Removal of Klingon ambush storyline, resulting in the deletion of Captain Kadek of the I.K.S. Chot. Instead, the tutorial is entirely Borg-focused.
- This time, the mission takes place at wreckage from a recent battle between Starfleet and Klingon forces, not from repeated Klingon ambushes.
- Quark is entirely removed from the tutorial, as the player does not make contact with anyone aboard the Break Even. The freighter is completely disabled and perhaps derelict, with the distress call being automated instead.
- Despite this, the Break Even could be found in the Pollux System in Sector space beginning with “Communication Breakdown”, providing Bank and Mail access. Quark would hail the player, still mentioning a Klingon ambush that no longer occurs. However, once the player had advanced too many levels, the captain of the Break Even referred the player to Earth Spacedock to use their facilities instead. The ship's inconsistent presence was ended by an update on July 7, 2022.
- Captain Nog is still featured in the mission, though most of his lines have been replaced with that of Admiral Kathryn Janeway. The Chimera arrives to escort the player back to Earth Spacedock, only to be ambushed by another Borg Sphere. The Voyager then arrives to rescue both vessels.
- Captain Jay Yim of U.S.S. Khitomer is now seen only in this portion of the tutorial, via a distress call sent from the Pollux System. Janeway orders the player and Nog to investigate.
- Improved cutscenes and streamlined mission flow.
- Prior to the release of Victory is Life in 2018, the roles of Captain Nog and U.S.S. Chimera was filled by the original Captain Vo'Lok and the U.S.S. Renown while the captain of the Break Even was an unnamed Ferengi.
- As part of the tutorial, this mission is acquired automatically and cannot be dropped or skipped. Completing and turning the mission in, will automatically add “Communication Breakdown” to the player's mission journal.
- As mission reward, [Zarva] (Bolian Female, Engineering) will join the player's bridge crew.
