Our homeworld was consumed when our sun went supernova more than 200 years ago. Since then, we have wandered the stars in great colony ships, living and dying in peace.
There have been many times that we have considered settling down on one planet or another, but the fear that we could lose everything again is too strong. If we can wander, we can run, and that will keep us ahead of misfortune. |
You have massive starships that can house thousands, yet you still leave most of your population in jeopardy on planets vulnerable to attack or natural disaster.
How can you protect these stationary settlements? |
The Federation has billions of citizens on more than a hundred worlds, and each world is protected to the best of our ability. It is one of Starfleet's major functions to assist in the case of natural disasters or attack, and in a crisis we can move entire populations in a matter of days. |
My people revere the living spirit of all things. Our value for the diversity of life in all of its forms leads us to abhor the harming of anything. Everything that we use or consume must be freely given by its source.
Why do we have such reverence? Because we are able to speak to these spirits. We are able to sense the cellular vibrations of all things and we have learned to interpret these vibrations as language. The voices we hear are often simple but they are still voices. |
Tell me, what part of your culture might be of most interest to the Federation? | While races with telepathic or empathic abilities are well known to the Federation, your people display a degree of sensitivity we have not seen before. Your abilities present much potential for scientific and philosophical exploration. |
In your honest opinion, what might be the toughest hurdle to bring our two cultures closer? | Your sensitivity to the harm of anything is greater than that of even our most pacifist races. Both of our peoples will have to exercise tolerance and patience when dealing with each other. Betazoids and Deltans may be the only Federation members of sufficient empathy to serve as ambassadors to your world until we can gain sufficient scientific understanding of your perceptions. | |
We were slaves, the Bremri treated us like little more than beasts of burden. They beat and starved us. They stole our children and separated bonded mates. They killed without reason.
We rose up against the Bremri. Many lives were lost, but in the end we defeated our tormentors and took their technology. Now it is our planet. The last of the Bremri leaders were executed more than a year ago. We have formed a provisional government and are beginning the rebuilding process. But it is difficult – there are many who want us to continue hunting the Bremri across the stars. Others are obsessed with mourning all that was lost. And there are many rivals for power. It is a turbulent time, but we are free. That is all that matters. |
We overthrew the leaders of our world. Is the Federation an oppressive government that keeps its worlds under control through force? | The United Federation of Planets is an alliance of worlds united for common causes and through common ideals. Oppression and civil rights violations are taken very seriously and punished appropriately. |
Could the illumination be enhanced? You see, our race developed on a world with a dual star system. There is always daylight. Darkness is only found in the deep places, caverns inhabited by our world’s predators, large arachnoid ambush hunters. They are the very form of terror. Horrid, horrid things.
Mek'Ofeya Ambassador First Contact Mission My people deal in technology. If we can't find what a client wants we'll make it. If we can't make it, they don't need it. Does the Federation trade in technology with other worlds? We share technology freely to allies and those in need. We do not trade weapons. What is the purpose of the Klingon Death Ritual? Warn the dead a warrior comes to meet them. Due to the deadliness of these dwellers in darkness, our species has evolved a fear of dark places. While it originally served a purpose, this fear still holds us in its grip. Still, this primal fear has driven us to wonderful advancements in the field of photonic science |
Tell me, what part of your culture might be of most interest to the Federation? | Your light based technology is astounding. We stand to learn a great deal from you about the possibilities of photonic science. |
In your honest opinion, what might be the toughest hurdle to bring our two cultures closer? | The majority of our member races are diurnal by nature. As such, even our stations and ships generally include a night period and darkness is quite common. Additionally, the light levels your people are comfortable with are uncomfortable bright for many of our member races. |

I was discussing our similar historic periods of revolution and strife with your Science officer. They mentioned that one of the pivotal periods just prior to the foundation of your Federation was a cold war between the Vulcans and the Andorians. How was this conflict resolved? | The Vulcans suffered from internal corruption that falsely villainized the Andorians. After the Vulcan Reformation, the Vulcan High Command was dissolved and the new government entered into a less hostile stance with Andoria, ending years of cold war and military tension. |

I understand that it was constructed by a long-forgotten race, and that it claims to be five billion years old! What is the name of this artifact? | It is called the Guardian of Forever. |
