The Kobayashi Maru is a PvE Queue in which 5 players participate in one of the Starfleet’s oldest traditions, the Kobaysahi Maru simulation. Captains will face successive rounds of enemies who will become more and more dangerous as the simulation continues.

The scenario will be modified by a number of Hazards and Affixes. Hazards are environmental difficulties to be overcome during play. Affixes are buffs and debuffs that can be placed on player ships, enemy ships, or every ship in the scenario.

  • Battle Until All of You Fall
    • Round: #

Six Round Version[ | ]

Synopsis[ | ]

The legendary Kobayashi Maru has been updated. Test your skills against rising odds!

This version of the simulation lasts until you complete round 6.

Objectives[ | ]

  • Briefing 0:20
  • Receive Distress Call 0:14
  • Complete round 6
    • Round: #
  • Exit Simulation

Hazards[ | ]

  • Bombardment: players will be targeted by a large delayed explosion. Leave the target area to avoid this!
  • Doomsday Device: will spawn a planet-killer. It cannot be targeted or destroyed. While the Kobayashi Maru is immune to its weapon, you are not!
  • Iconian Probes: these devices will appear on the map for a round. They respawn after a period of time when destroyed.
  • Ionic Clouds: three of them will drift towards players. They will damage anything they are near - avoid them if you can!
  • Thalaron Radiation Clouds: fields of deadly radiation will appear and disappear during the round.
  • Turbulent Space: simulates the more violent parts of fluidic space, and will push and pull ships around the area.

Affixes[ | ]

  • The Acceleration Affix: increases your Speed and Turn Rate. (NB. Also sets every player's ship throttle to a random value every few seconds.)
  • Weapon Recharge Affix: will double the power cost of your weapons, but they'll recharge in half the time.
  • Systems Offline Bomb Affix: a player will be targeted by a bomb. Anyone caught in the explosion will lose a random subsystem for a while. The player targeted by the bomb is unaffected.
  • The Volatile Core Breach Affix: causes the destruction of enemy ships to damage all players over time.
  • Vengeance Affix: causes the destruction of enemy ships to buff their remaining allies.
  • Nanite Infection Affix: all ships - even the Kobayashi Maru - are infected with nanites that get stronger when in close proximity.
  • Technical Difficulties Affix: doubles the recharge time of powers in a random career - Tactical, Science, or Engineering.
  • Unstable Cores Affix: Warp Core Breaches are three times stronger than usual.

Notes[ | ]

  • The Kobayashi Maru TFO was originally released on June 29 as a limited Weekend Event, where it rewarded [Weekend Event Voucher]. For the October 2019 run of the event, a special version was run for the first inaugural Event Campaign. This iteration of the event is available from Level 10+, has no death penalty for players or the Maru itself, and ends after Round 6. After this event, the TFO was brought back as a permanent fixture in the Task Force Operations list.
