Drozana Station[]
The Depths of Drozana[]
It't time to find out what's really going on at Drozana Station, using Ze'mara's access code to bypass the security doors to the maintenance levels.
Go To Drozana Maintenance Levels[]
Apparently the Ferengi aren't big on keeping the maintenance levels cleaned up. Or lit.
Federation
Science Officer:The interference also may make it difficult to contact the ship or to get a transporter lock if we need an emergency beam-out.
This level primarily contains power junctions and EPS conduits for the rooms above us.
We need to reach the maintenance lift and take that down to the computer core.Klingon
Science Officer:The interference also may make it difficult to contact the ship or to use the transporters if we need to send for additional warriors.
This level primarily contains power junctions and EPS conduits for the rooms above us.
We need to reach the maintenance lift and take that down to the computer core.
Take an Emergency Flashlight (Optional)[]
If you're having difficulty seeing where you are going, there is a crate full of emergency supplies from which you can take a flashlight just ahead.
Tactical Officer:
I recognize these flashlight drones. Hands-free hover system, and programmed to shift in response to your movement. Not the most reliable design, though.
Find the Maintenance Lift[]
With or without flashlight equipped, it's time to see what's out there. To the left side of the first large room you enter there are some side rooms. Opening the door, the first signs of Devidians appear.
Tactical Officer:
Science Officer:
Sir, I'm also picking up some indeterminate readings from behind the door to our left. However, the interference from the triolic waves are making hard to get accurate scans at a distance.
There is also the corpse of a Ferengi here that can be scanned for more information.
Federation
Science Officer:There's nothing we can do for him now. Due to the temporal flux disrupting the transporters, we can't even beam the body out. Once we get out of here, we can notify station security.
Klingon
Science Officer:The temporal flux is affecting the transporters. Once we get out of here, we can notify station security and let them deal with the body.
Passing the late Ferengi and moving along, there is a console where you can check the power distribution grid.
Science Officer:
I'm seeing triolic surges near the maintenance lift and across multiple levels, but nothing that can be consistently tracked.
Returning to the large room, there is a door directly opposite the one you originally entered from. Unfortunately, it doesn't appear to be working.
Engineering Officer:
[Engineering] Bypass Power Conduits for Stuck Door (Optional)[]
If you happen to be an Engineering Officer, you can bypass the power conduits to get the door operational again.
Everyone else will have to take the last remaining exit from the room. Watch your step; partway along the corridor there will be a minor collapse that can injure you and your bridge officers.
Continuing to the Maintenance Lift[]
Follow the corridors until you come to one last door before the lift. The Devidians will finally react to your presence and attack you.
Science Officer:
That's good advice. Hopefully you equipped the proton rifle already, but if not, you should still be able to fight the Devidians off. Once you have succeeded you can proceed to the manintenance lift.
Federation
Tactical Officer:If they do, they'll become increasingly more violent as we get closer to their lair.
Klingon
Tactical Officer:If they do, they'll become increasingly more violent as we approach. We must be ready for battle!
Science Officer:
Unfortunately, once you reach the lift, there is another obstacle in your path.
Engineering Officer:
Unlock the Maintenance Lift[]
You'll have to access a maintenance console to unlock the lift. It's down the short branch corridor you just passed to get to the lift.
Federation
Engineering Officer:Klingon
Engineering Officer:Sir, we need to be wary. There may be a saboteur at work here.
Take the Lift to the Computer Core[]
The last obsticle removed, you can now take the maintenance lift down to the computer core.
The lift seems to have different ideas, however.
Ghosts and Shadows[]
Engineering Officer:
Sir, it appears that the lift is stuck. We're somewhere on a maintenance level for environmental controls and waste recycling.
We'll need to track down the damaged junctions on this floor and repair or bypass them before we can take the lift to the computer core level.Repair or Reroute Control Relays[]
The lift has stopped short of your destination, you need to reroute power to continue, and you are confronted with a locked door.
Federation
Federation captains can scan the door.
Engineering Officer:Sir, if we don't find that key, we could be stuck here for a long time.
Perhaps you can contact your vessel for assistance?
Bridge Officer:...
Klingon
Klingon captains don't waste any time scanning the door or trying to contact their vessel, and just get down to the business of overriding the lock.
While the door is locked, you can still bypass it at the console near the door by using the emergency override. However, as soon as you have gotten through...
Tactical Officer:
The door! We're locked in!
You're going to need a very complex code key to get back out again. Hopefully you can locate it before you're killed by the triolic waves.
This room contains a few Talarian hook spiders which will attack you if you disturb them. There is also a datapad containing a maintenance log sitting atop a pile of crates.
Maintenance Log Entry:
It could take some time to find the problem and make repairs, though, particularily if I need to use the replicators to create replacement components. Belan is ... loathe to allow use of the replicators for anything more than bloodwine and Gramilian sand peas.
This is dirty, uncomfortable and thoroughly disagreeable work. Naturally, as soon as the job involves mucking around in recycled atmosphere and waste processing, I get the short straw ...Repair Relay #1[]
Down a corridor to the left is the first relay that needs to be repaired. A group of Devidians will ambush you once you finish.
Repair Relay #2[]
Proceed back out the remaining entrance of the room and you'll come to a cross corridor. The way to the left is blocked, so take the way to the right. As you approach the room that contains the second relay, you will hear a voice.
Unknown:
Tactical Officer:
Use the communications console to communicate with this person in distress.
Unknown:
- Who is this?
Unknown:
- Who shot you?
Unknown:
- I'm activating the manual override. Try to reach the release lever.
Unknown:
...
Activate the manual release and enter the room, but you're too late to save the Bajoran. You can examine her corpse for clues, however.
Science Officer:
The wounds are ... still warm. She was killed just a few seconds ago!
Federation
Tactical Officer:Klingon
Tactical Officer:Whoever did this was somehow able to sneak into the room and kill this woman without us ever seeing anything suspicious!
No time to ponder this mystery; the second relay is located here, and must be repaired. Doing so will disturb some Talarian hook spiders which will attack you. There is also another maintenance log that you can examine.
Maintenance Log Entry:
I'm starting to suspect that the low-level radiation I've detected on these decks has affected the station inhabitants, and that some are showing signs of transient acute schizophrenia and paranoia. I'll have to maintain contact silence for now, so that they don't interfere while I'm trying to repair the systems. Once I've corrected the problems causing the radiation leaks, we can deal with the symptoms.
My work will take far longer than I originally anticipated. Fortunately I've engaged a safety interlock on the maintenance lift, so no one will come down here without me knowing about it.
I found several program errors and have purged the affected subroutines. The work is much easier now. Soon everything will be under control.Repair Relay #3[]
Exit the room and you'll find that the way to the room containing the last relay that needs repair is no longer blocked. You will encounter a larger Devidian ambush before you can perform the repairs. Once you succeed, there is only a backup relay to activate and you can get out of here. Assuming you can find a code to the door that's blocking your exit.
Activate Backup Relay #4[]
As you proceed towards the backup relay, a strange voice echoes through the maintenance corridors, singing some kind of song...
Unknown:
You will also encounter plasma being vented into the corridors by plasma injectors.
[Science] Activate Remote Override on Plasma Ejectors (Optional)[]
If you happen to be a Science Officer, you may be able to do something about this.
Science Officer:
Captain, if you remember your wave interference from the Academy, you might be able to jam the remote signal.
All others will have to dash through the plasma jets while they are off.
Continuing to Backup Relay #4[]
After getting through the plasma jets, you can activate the backup relay. Once you have activated it, you will be ambushed by Gein who, after taking some damage, will disappear.
Science Officer:
Look for the Encryption Key[]
Now you just have to find the encryption key you need to get back to the lift. Head back the way you came, remembering to run through the plasma jets while they are off if you're not fortunate enough to be a Science Officer. As you proceed back down the corridor, you will hear that voice singing again.
Unknown:
Defeat the Killer and Find His Encryption Key[]
At the end of the corridor, you will find Gein waiting for you.
Gein:
You'll not survive to perform such tricksies, oh no, my pretty bonnie-kin ...
Gein is joined by a large number of Devidians, all of whom try to kill off you and your away team. Once they are defeated, you discover the identity of the killer, as well as your key out of here.
Federation
Science Officer:The triolic energy would have degraded his program and caused instability. And the Devidians didn't bother it, because it had no neural energy for them to feed upon.
Sir, it looks like the encryption key for the door might correspond to a subroutine embedded in the hologram's mobile emitter. We should be able to use it to open the door.
Mobile emitters are still rare outside of Starfleet, Captain. The staff here must have spent quite a lot of latinum to obtain one. If you ask me, Belan might be selling more than drinks and dabo.
It would be best if someone keeps an eye on him, but I have a feeling Franklin Drake is doing just that.Klingon

It would be best if someone like K'men keeps an eye on him.
Take the Lift to the Computer Core[]
Open the locked door and return to the maintenance lift. Time to head deeper into the Devidians' nest.
Spectre of the Past[]
You've finally reached your original destination, the level containing Drozana's computer core.
Engineering Officer:
On this station, the core itself is down a long ramp area, past some regulator rooms. We should head there as quickly as possible.
Reach Core Access Ramp[]
Once again, you're faced with a locked door. Examine it and see if there is a way around or through.
Science Officer:
This one doesn't seem to have any special codes. We should be able to open it from the secondary security console, just down the hallway.
Use Secondary Security Console to Access Core[]
Head to the room down the hallway and access the secondary security console. You will be ambushed by more Devidians when you do so, but the door will be unlocked and you will be able to proceed.
Secure the Computer Core[]
Proceed through the door and you will come to a room with several bodies on the floor. Bodies wearing Starfleet uniforms. Starfleet uniforms from the 23rd century. Scan one of them to determine what they are doing here.
Science Officer:
We have to stop them before they're responsible for any other deaths. They could disrupt the timeline!
Exiting this room you will be faced with a horde of Devidians, but the phase shift does not last long and they do not attack you. You have now reached the top of a long ramp spiraling downward to the computer core, with a three rooms leading off to the right as you go down.
[Tactical] Activate Computer Core Defenses (Optional)[]
As you approach the first of these rooms, if you are a Tactical Officer, you will be able to activate the computer core's defences to assist you when you finally confront the Devidians.
Tactical Officer:
Perhaps with your tactical training, you could reactivate those defenses to assist in fighting the Devidian incursion.
The room will contain some Devidians that you will have to fight through before you can reach the console to activate the computer core defenses, however.
Regulate Core Power Systems (Optional)[]
As you approach the second room, you have the option of disrupting the Devidians and their gate using the computer core's power systems.
Science Officer:
The Devidians are probably leeching power from the station to keep their gate active. We could use this console to set up a power spike that we could trigger near the computer core, which might disrupt the Devidians and their gate.
You'll have to fight through a group of Devidians to reach the console, however.
Regulate Core Field Systems (Optional)[]
As you approach the third room, you have the option of countering the Devidians' phasing ability using the field systems.
Science Officer:
We could set up the field systems here so that we can activate them in the computer core area to counteract the Devidians' phasing abilities. That would push them out of synch with our universe.
This action will disturb some more Talarian hook spiders that will attack you.
To the Computer Core[]
Head down to the bottom of the ramp and you'll find the computer core infested with Devidians. You and your bridge officers are in for a fight.
With the core secure at last, you can seek the source of the Devidian incursion.
Federation
Science Officer:Once we get readings on the portal, we should take them back to Deep Space K-7. Their computing facilities are far more extensive than what we have on the <Shipname>, and they might be able to find a way to shut down the portal.
Klingon
Science Officer:Once we get readings on the portal, we should take them back to Ganalda Station. The analysts there may be able to give us better readings than we can get with our ... questionable tricorders.
Scan the Devidian Portal[]
Scan the portal located in the computer core.
Federation
Science Officer:We need to take this information back to the nearest starbase -- K-7 -- for analysis. Their computers are powerful enough to process it.
Klingon
Science Officer:Our scanners do not have the processing power to make sense of this data. We need to take it back to Ganalda Station for analysis.
Depart System[]
Exit the Drozana maintenance levels, leave the system, and head for Deep Space K-7, or Galanda Station.
Deep Space K-7/Galanda Station[]
Use Computers to Analyze Scan Data[]
Upon your arrival at Deep Space K-7/Galanda Station, utilize one of the large computer banks to analyze the readings you took of the Devidian portal.
Federation
Further Analysis: Devidian portal based on phase-shifted tachyon spin supported by draw from Drozana Station power supply.
Further Analysis: Portal suffers from instability due to quantum particle entanglement with phase-shifted particles. Portal can be enlarged or accessed with modulated directed energy when phase-shifted entangled matter reaches critical point.Klingon
Temporal fluctuation based on triolic phase-shifting technology. Approximate date of incursion: DIS 2093 (Federation 2265).
Fluctuation tied to presence of entangled triolic-generating matter, source unknown. Rate of triolic energy incursion increasing.
Portal accessible during resonance peak through application of phased energy discharge (phaser, disruptor, other energy projector).
Return to sector space and report your findings to complete the mission.
Eta Eridani Sector Block[]
Report to Neutral Zone Contact[]
Return to sector space and report to your Neutral Zone contact.
Federation
Franklin Drake:I'll be honest, <Name>. Time travel is a tool. At times, it is a very useful one. I know Starfleet has hundreds of regulations about temporal incursions, but my job is to preserve the Federation, not make Admiral Quinn and the rest of the suits at Starfleet Command happy. If we break a few rules along the way, so be it.
I need to make some preparations before you can proceed. I will contact you when the time is right.
Drake out.Klingon
K'men:I will need to make many preparations. Prepare your crew for battle and wait for my signal.
Post-Completion[]
After completing “What Lies Beneath”, you will be able to ask a question of your mission contact regarding the events of the mission.
Federation
- Shouldn't we be trying to communicate with the Devidians? There might be a peaceful solution!
I'm not talking about those lifeless hunks of protein that come out of the replicator. I mean flesh from an animal. The body of a creature who died to give you sustenance.
Oh, don't give me that look. Federation society as a whole may see butchering animals as a bit barbaric, but there are many people who do not have those limitations.
Think about that meat. Think about it and ask yourself ... before you ate it, did you stop to ask the cow what its opinion of your dinner plans were? Did you try to come to a peaceful solution with the targ?
We are food to the Devidians. Our neural energies are their sustenance. They hunger, and they feed. They cannot stop. They cannot find peace with starvation.
Consult your historical database. The famed Jean-Luc Picard encountered the Devidians once. He is one of the most famous and accomplished diplomats in the past century, and even he did not parlay with these creatures. He found the source of their power, and he destroyed it.
You would be wise to follow his example while you still have the chance.Klingon
- The fight against the Devidians will take us to the past.
Unlike the Federation, which seems to see time travel as a infinitely entertaining toy, we in the Empire know just how dangerous it can be.
Centuries ago -- or centuries from now, depending on how you look at it -- there will be a Temporal War. Some of the combatants in that war will come to the Klingons of the 22nd century and ask them for their help.
I am proud to say that our ancestors listened to these cold warriors of the future, learned all that they would tell of the future, and then spit in their faces.
We are Klingon. We are not pawns or mercenaries. The people from the future wanted us to die for a cause that was not even our own. They had no honor.
Since then, the Empire has put heavy restrictions on time travel. I believe that it is our best option to stop the Devidians, so I will ensure that you will be allowed to proceed.
However, I must warn you. Do not alter the past. Fight the Devidians, but leave the people of that time in peace.
