The Nexus is an extra-dimensional realm in which one's thoughts and desires shaped reality. The doorway to the Nexus was a violent, destructive temporal energy ribbon which crossed through the galaxy every 39.1 years, most recently in 2410 when it passes through the Rotanev System.

“Beyond the Nexus”: Captain Geordi La Forge and the player investigate the Nexus, hoping to find the missing U.S.S. Madison, which itself had been searching for the long-lost U.S.S. Forrestal. The Madison attacks and disables the Challenger, and Captain La Forge and the player beam to that ship, fighting off Forrestal crew members under the thrall of Khaj'Buur. After Khaj'Burr is taken into custody, La Forge states that he will remain behind, repairing the disabled ships.
