Raiders are a type of starship. They are fast attack ships with a number of special features. Compared to equivalent Escorts and Raptors, Raiders have one fewer weapon slot but benefit from Raider Flanking to gain a damage boost when attacking an enemy's rear arc. Like Escorts and Raptors, end-game Raiders also have an Experimental Weapon slot. Raiders also have a focus on Universal Bridge Officer seats. Some raiders have one fewer Bridge Officer seat but have full Universal seating instead. These ships are extremely maneuverable by design and are an ideal ship for fighting in groups of more than one due to their high maneuverability, allowing players fighting together to constantly be in a flank position of an enemy, therefore vastly reducing their ability to regulate their shields and protect their hull.
The Klingon Bird-of-Prey is the most iconic Raider and is a long standing Klingon design dating back to the 22nd century. The B'rel Bird-of-Prey is the first ship that players of the Klingon Empire will be given.
Federation Raiders are known as Light Escorts.

Klingon Raiders[ | ]
Klingon Raiders are more commonly referred to as Birds-of-Prey.
The Bird-of-Prey design dates back at least as far as the 2150s, with the B'rel-class being in service from as early as the 23rd century through to the late 24th century and beyond. There are several variations, but they all share common avian design with a bulbous bridge module in front of an engineering section with weapons mounted on a pair of wings. The wings often alter position between flight, landing and attack mode.
Aside from the Raider Flanking, Klingon Birds-of-Prey also have a built-in Battle Cloak. This Battle Cloak offers a slightly larger bonus to all damage compared to the Battle Cloak on other ship classes (25% vs 15%). Some Birds-of-Prey, such as B'rel Bird-of-Prey Retrofit (T5) and Kor Bird-of-Prey (T6), come with a built in Enhanced Battle Cloak, allowing them to fire torpedoes and launch mines while under cloak.
