The S.S. Break Even is a Ferengi freighter in the Orion Sector commanded by Quark.

Missions involved

• “Training Cruise”: The Break Even sends a distress call to the player's starship, which lures them into a Borg ambush. After the battle, the player attempts to hail the Break Even to no avail.

Notes

• With the release of Victory is Life, the Break Even captain was changed from an unnamed Ferengi to Quark. His lines were also rewritten slightly to make him less complicit to the Klingon attack. Following the changes to the tutorial with Season Twenty-six: Stormfall, there is no contact with Quark during the tutorial, nor is the Break Even attacked by Klingons.
  • Despite this, the Break Even can be found in Sector space beginning with “Communication Breakdown”, providing Bank and Mail access. Quark will hail the player, still mentioning a Klingon ambush that no longer occurs. However, once the player has advanced too many levels, the captain of the Break Even refers the player to Earth Spacedock to use their facilities instead.
