Ship Classes?[]
Hey guys, I'm new here (Second Day after signing up onto STO Wiki), and I think you guys are doing a great job, I was wondering what some of the specs and information of the other race's ships in STO. And to add to other races like the half-finished Romulan section. I will be willing to assist if necessary, but my time and resources are sometimes limited, so don't blame me for trying. Anyway... I think that there are some other things that should be added. But I ask that you don't have to do it right away, just relax and take your time.
Classes to Add:
- Terran Empire (i would assume federation design, just different weapons, and the hull is painted darker)
- Romulan Star Empire
- Ferengi
- Nausicaan
- Orion
- Undine
- Borg
- Some of the individual race's Stations and facilities
Also, near Earth Spacedock i've seen that there is a large vessel called "Typhoon Class Battleship". Maybe its a class for a future release. And the Terran Jupiter Dreadnought has also been seen in Starfleet. Such as the USS Victory near Battle Group Omega in the Cestus Sector. I guess that might probably be a future or limited release for lifetime or something...
Well, I will try my best, and remember these are just suggestions not demands Good Luck, and Take Care Admins.
- Thank you for your suggestion! It's been discussed before among all of us, but I've added it to our official to-do list for the wiki. Any help you could provide would be great. Collaboration makes any wiki great! –TerranRich (ETC) @ 01:15, 14 April 2010 (UTC)
I'm not sure if it has been discussed before, but I would love to see something like a Carrier class complete with several fighter and bomber groups. Being able to set "patrol" areas for the fighters as well as being able to target specific ships.

Currency[]
Hi all;
I would like to say thank you so much all for the pages that have been created to far. I have been playing the game since day 2 of open beta, and still consider myself a noob. That being said I think that a page of where you can spend the different currencies and maybe even where you may find/earn them. For example the PVP commendations and exploration merits.
I can honestly say that I am not sure where to spend them or what areas give what. Just a thought. Sleepykor 00:14, 31 March 2010 (UTC)
- Have you taken a look at the Currency page, or the Currency category? The page on each type of currency should have information on how to earn them, where to spend them, etc. We do plan on expanding these, however, once all the vendor articles and station/hub articles (which list the vendors on board each one) are finished. Thanks for your suggestion! –TerranRich (ETC) @ 01:17, 14 April 2010 (UTC)
Item Finder Feature[]
Are there any plans for an "item locator" feature for this website? For instance, if I wanted to upgrade my shields, I could do a search and it would tell me what mission or best area might give me the best chance of finding it.
- This is a great idea. For example, if you wanted new ship shields, you could go to the Ship Shields main article and view a list of which missions give out various versions of ship shields as rewards, as well as which vendors sold ship shields, and which types. These would also be shown on individual item pages (e.g. Covariant Shield Array). Thank you for your suggestion; we have added it to our official wiki to-do list! –TerranRich (ETC) @ 01:37, 14 April 2010 (UTC)
Ahnya-Maahlia[]
I think Ahnya-Maahlia, the female Orion dancer behind the Klingon Weapons vendors on DS9, deserves her own stowiki entry. Without question, She's definately good advertising for their business and her dancing is a treat to watch.

- How could we have forgotten about her! But more importantly, why not add the article yourself? The great thing about STO Wiki, as well as ANY wiki, is that anybody can edit it! –TerranRich (ETC) @ 00:05, 20 April 2010 (UTC)
Thanks, TerranRich. Ahnya now has her very own wiki page. After a few tries, I figured out some of the basics.

Starship Equipment vs. Starship Components[]
So I'm new and looking at organizing and categorizing the whole vendor section and also the items section. One of the problems I'm running into is that its seems shields/deflectors/engines are listed as being a type of Starship Equipment, on some vendor profiles but also listed as Starship Components on others.
What I would like to do is reorganize the categories to place shields/deflectors/engines in Starship Equipment, and then put Starship Components as a larger master category with Starship Equipment, Starship Weapons, Starship Consoles, and Starship Devices as the main subcategories of Starship Components.
What do you think?

Item icon screenshot[]
I would like to add the "Photonic Tribble" (Referral Reward). Have the description ready. But I don't know how to make those "high res" screenshots of the item icons. Mine are always smaller than those already here. I know, the icons are bigger when dragged, but I cannot screenshot the dragged item :) How is it done?

Fleet pages on wiki[]
I think it would be a good idea to allow fleets to make their own pages on STOWiki and make new cathegory for those pages. --Razler 21:34 4th June 2010 (UTC)
- It was discussed before, and was decided that it would be another whole can of worms we're not ready to open. So as of now, there should be no fleet pages. <span=help title="bobalobabingbong's User Page">~bobalobabingbong -=[ <span=help title="boba's Talk Page">T + <span=help title="boba's Contributions">C ]=- @ 19:09, 13 June 2010 (UTC)
- There are other fleets aside from ours? I cannot believe that! ;) If you have a specific site for your fleet, you can certainly place a link to it on your user page! - Veranis 16:44, 19 June 2010 (UTC)
- I would like to see a Fleets section. It could just be name, rank, number and screenshot if your worried about content overload. A list of Fleets would be nice --DoggyDude 02:55, 7 September 2010 (UTC)
I think that it would also make it very interesting, that once you make it to a Vice Admiral rank, that you would control more than one ship. something like, your a Vice admiral 1, you get a second ship, #2, a third ship. You would have to trail all the bridge officers, even promote the bridge officers you know and love and trained to "control/Captain" your other ships in your fleet.
- Hi DoggyDude! this is not an official outlet of Criptic Studios, therefore this is not the place to request/discuss changes to the game. This page is meant to discuss the Wiki. Also, please sign your posts using the ~~~~ signature which produces your login name. - I'm afraid you seem to have attributed another persons post to myself, I ONLY posted the comment I correctly signed above. To clarify, I posted that I would like to see a fleet list appearing on STO Wiki, even if just names of people who wished to put their fleet name on here. THough of course this is just a desire. Check your update log for the other posters identity. --DoggyDude 00:13, 8 September 2010 (UTC)
There is the somewhat forgotten STO Geekipedia which last I checked does allow fleet pages. I know it isn't as popular as STOWiki, but at least it's something --PerRock 04:22, 26 July 2011 (UTC)
Item aquired by ________[]
On the item page list how and where u can obtain certian items —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Kahless65 (talk · contr)
- It's polite to sign your posts, so the rest of us know who you are. :)
- I agree this would be nice however it would be a massive undertaking. We've already added inventories of vendor NPCs, but so many items are acquired as random drops from such a wide variety of foes...
- This topic was actually brought up during a discussion about adding pages for each type of foe. That, too, was voted against due to the scope of the project. If you would like to do the research yourself, enlisting a few friends to help you, this could certainly be added in to the existing item pages as you suggested. I for one will not be working on this any time soon. ;)
- Thanks for the suggestion! - Veranis 16:51, 19 June 2010 (UTC)
"Races"[]
I think it would be a good idea to replace all references to "race" (here, for example) with the word "species". Since race usually refers to genetic differences within the same species, calling Humans/Vulcans/Andorians different 'races' doesn't really make sense. --DekuScrubby 10:52, 18 July 2010 (UTC)
- This is certainly consistent with the character creation screens ("Choose Your Species and Gender"). I did a search on "race" and it doesn't seem that there are more than a few hundred references, most of which seem to be part of the NPCinfo template. We would probably want some redirect pages to help find the species pages if one is thinking race.
- All this said, I don't find the use of the word "race" too strange. However, I can understand that it is a hot button term for some and we don't necessarily need to create controversy where none is needed. --Swordmage 15:24, 18 July 2010 (UTC)
You're probably correct it should be species, and changing it shouldn't be too big a problem. A couple of things while we're on the topic, we might want to include some fine granularity in this to include non-organic non-species lifeforms such as holograms or androids. Also, we'll have to fix the Borg and come up with a new category for them, as they are a collective composed of multiple species. Changingthings won't be too hard, we just have to remember when making the templates so they keep the plural of species, as species and not change it to speciess. -- Curmudgeony 22:42, 23 July 2010 (UTC)
Wiki Policy in regards to Star Trek Cannon[]
I have a page that I am updating with the history of the Klingon Empire with regards to the warships in it's arsenal, but I may have infringed upon the wiki policy that states this wiki is purely for ingame content and cannon. Though I understand this, I still feel that be shedding some light on the potentials for future development came we make this "ingame content and cannon" more expansive.
For those that are interested, please have a look at my page and leave your comments so that I may "gauge the market" so to speak, http://stowiki.org/wiki/User_talk:Lyntons
Thanks All. Lyntons 11:20, 26 July 2010 (UTC) Lynton

Base skills level setup[]
I've read several articles here and elsewhere that say you can max out on skills, but little that shows/says what that max level is. Even the skills builder http://sto-intel.org/skills/ will show an error that too many points spent, beyond max level, but fails to say/show which is over or where.
I would like to see a chart showing what the max skill levels are for each category.
I would also like to see something like a base level chart of skills, with room left over to customize. I.E. an engineer should have this much put towards this skill, should only spend this max towards this skills, etc.
Kewl thanks for the help. James aka James Brent Muth Admiral UH3 08/23/10
- Great idea. You could start a new Guide by organizing the information you found so far. When we have some ground work done we could promote it on the front page and twitter, to encourage other users to expand it. --RachelGarrett 07:32, 24 August 2010 (UTC)
For this site, listing a page just for Dailies[]
So I just learned some dailies can be found in certain systems, but not by a starfleet contact. Having just the dailies listed and clearly showing how do get them would be really cool to me.
- See Emblems for a list of dailies at VA level, but I also created Daily which has a lot for RA level. --MatthewM 21:14, 5 December 2010 (UTC)
Build and Loadout Guides[]
I saw the Character Planner which I assume offers players a way to plan out skills but players could also list successful and effective builds for both the character and bridge officers along with ship load outs. This wiki would be an ideal place for such a page and it is all player input. Other players can test out the builds and rate them from 1 to 10 or by a 5 star rating. I am accruing BO points like mad so changing and testing builds would be no big deal but finding a really good team build would be great.
These builds would have to be listed for corresponding ship types and load outs as the skills would be enhanced by consoles.
An example of this would be an engineer player with a Cruiser would look at the cruiser listings and all the Captain and BO builds for it. Ground listings would be a separate category as ship load outs wouldn't affect that. A breif description of how the build is meant to be used is included. Sub categories like "Tank" or "Nuker" would be helpful in a players search as well.
If this is already planned I apologize. Otherwise What do you think?
Missing plus[]
Greets:
At the top of this page, it mentions that you should click on the plus tab to start a new section. The plus tab doesn't show until you reach the editor. I used an inline edit link as I was just going to add a new section to a previous suggestion and saw it.
Hope this helps, --Drmike 14:31, 20 January 2011 (UTC)
- Removed the dupe. The interesting thing is that the tab now shows up in the header, now that I;ve finished editing the page. Caching issue maybe?
Work the missing accolades into the missions[]
Greets again:
I just finished the run though of Mission: Stranded in Space only to discover that there was a hidden accolade of flying through a hole in an asteroid. Maybe working those into the missions would be a good idea.
thanks, --Drmike 14:38, 20 January 2011 (UTC)
Chat Channels[]
If there are any semi-universal custom chat channels that the average STO user should be aware of, could those be posted somewhere? I've looked for them, but not seen any. Unifying chat channels doing the same thing would probably be good for better connecting the community.
Thanks. Ishaka 17:44, 10 February 2011 (UTC)
- Something like that, but with specific public chat channels. I see a chat system section there. I heard about the Accolades channel, for example, on the forums last night when digging for info on the Breen Capital Punishment accolade. I never knew it existed before, and it's not invite only private.
- If there are other such channels like that, they should probably get listed there. :)
- Thanks. --Ishaka 21:59, 10 February 2011 (UTC)
- Looks like it's all user created: http://forums.startrekonline.com/showthread.php?t=98124

- Yes, that much is already known. But there are some that are standardized enough to have been mentioned in other places. Ones like Accolades, which I heard about just recently on the forum when hunting for Breen Capships. Some like that are in use enough that if they're posted in a section on here, they might be more widely used than they are. --Ishaka 01:21, 11 February 2011 (UTC)

New small craft?[]
Are there plans to introduce other shuttle classes, Starfleet flight trainer, Mission scoutship or (fingers crossed) the Valkyrie fighters fron Star Trek Invasion? Using the Peregrine and Delta class as a baseline it shouldnt be hard.-Corvin Reigar
- Sorry, but we don't know what is planned unless it's officially announced. See Upcoming content#Ships for what is known to come and re-post your question on the official feedback forums so that a Dev can respond (for we are in no way affiliated with the Cryptic Studios staff). Thanks, -- Markonian 08:54, 15 May 2011 (UTC)
Question of Star System Allegiance[]
Are there any guidelines to or is there a list of exactly which star systems belong to which faction? The reason I ask is as I'm creating or adding to pages for systems in the "Patrol the x Sector" missions, I am running into many systems where the faction allegiance is not clearly indicated.
For example: The Veyga system could be neutral as it is not colonized and is a mining colony. The Korvat system is listed in Memory Beta as Klingon, but has one of the Federation's "top scientists" there. Koolhaas is uninhabited as it's a gas giant. Argelius has the Treasure Trading Station, but is it Federation because you can cite the station for safety violations?
I'm taking my "best-guess" and marking most systems in the Pi Canis sector as neutral unless the faction allegiance is obvious. However if there are other suggestions and ideas, I think it would be wonderful to review them all since there are many things to consider if there is a question. --Ithaqua 02:22, 26 July 2011 (UTC)
Advanced Search types[]
There should be an advanced search type, also more advanced search. Being a catch all with very limited control over the parameters of the query makes finding specific things harder.
Say I want to search for effect or attributes it contains.
I love STOwiki.. it is an invaluable tool for those wishing to play STO. I used it heavily it helped my advance to VA in a month or so, of course I did little else for nearly that month.
If you site had a bit more functionality it would be great.
I would contribute but I don't have the time to follow the coding guidelines and relearn code. If someone wants to take them and input them I would be happy to share, like a walk-through of "Ore for Outpost 3", I know to finish it and more importantly I know how to trigger it. Something I could not find on the site.
I'm a registered contributor but I don't have time to learn the coding unless you have a template I might be able to do it in an editor. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Ardhen (talk · contr) 00:26, 11 October 2009 (UTC)
- I'm a bit confused as there already is an advanced search type. As for learning the code, I'd suggest just looking at a page that is similar to what you want to do, click "Edit" and then copy that relevant code and change it to what you need, previewing as necessary, and then paste it into the page you want. At that point the layout is there, you're just filling in the text as necessary. --MatthewM 05:36, 29 July 2011 (UTC)
- Installing Semantic MediaWiki will actually give us this to an extent, that is, once we've been able to complete the work of creating properties for items, and the way the pages are currently organized, that's one of the more complicated ones to deal with. If/when that's done, the Special:Ask page provided by the extension would permit something like querying based on a item attribute, though sadly, it is designed for those who know SMW's query syntax.
- So, unfortunately, it's not something we can do in the short term. The wiki software just doesn't organize things in the kind of database structure that makes that simple; it's closer to a web site with static pages than the kind of thing you're suggesting. SMW could help us move closer to that kind of organization, but then we'll still need a user-friendly search page for that, and there's plenty of issues to iron out long before we get that far. — Eyes 05:48, 29 July 2011 (UTC)
Outdated Pages[]
There are outdated pages regarding many ship weapons with missing vital information such as crafting requirements and locations. Other pages have these information filled in but are outdated information such as the Plasma Beam array where it mentions:
"Lieutenant Commander Anichent at Memory Alpha offers upgrades for Mk IV and Mk VI Plasma Beam Arrays." (outdated as upgrades cannot be done now, crafting uses schematics)
It would be nice to be able to mark pages as outdated (if this feature is available I cannot find it in the "Help" or "Wiki Guidelines" pages). An alternate feature would be to have a page where we can add pages that are outdated to a list so that others can easily find which pages to update. Note: If these features exist it would be nice to include information on these features in the "Help" or "Wiki Guidelines" sections or make them easier to find. --Admiral Drake 00:08, 27 August 2011 (UTC)
- There is a "Needs Updating" template: {{Nu}}. --MatthewM 00:25, 27 August 2011 (UTC)
- Found it thanks, there are tons of pages concerning Ship Weapons. --Admiral Drake 23:08, 2 September 2011 (UTC)
Support chat[]
Hi,
BrooklynKnight suggested to me the creation of a dedicated STOWiki support/discussion chat channel. What do you think about this? The biggest problem I see with that is lack of (wo)manpower. Obviously, I would be keeping an eye on the channel when I'm online, but that's not enough for 24h coverage. Even if all Admins were to administer the channel for 2-4h each, it would be without support for the better part of each day. And there is a question I simply cannot answer: How much demand is there for such a channel? I know this is somewhat a chicken/egg problem, since offering such a channel might increase demand.
Regards, --RachelGarrett 08:50, 12 October 2011 (UTC)
- I support this idea, though I agree we have a bit of a problem in terms on administration. It does seem like there's a fair degree of overlap in the times we three active admins are up and active, so there's a fair chunk of the day that would have to be covered by others. But again, I said "a bit of a problem" for a reason; I'm sure it's one we can find a pretty simple solution for. — Eyes 12:07, 12 October 2011 (UTC)
- I personally don't see it as a problem It's simply the nature of chat rooms. STOWiki is a labor of love for all of you. It's not a job. You shouldn't have to sign yourselves up for 24 hour support. The primary purpose of the channel would be a central place for contributors and fans to gather and talk about the wiki, ask for help and advice from their peers and for the admins to hash out any issues in real time. You can even set up a second private admin only channel for those discussions. Moderation is rarely an issue. Accolades has gotten pretty big and it doesn't need moderation all that often, thankfully the majority if the people play nice. So it wouldn't be a huge deal if this channel didn't have some admin around 24/7.
- As for the actual Ops and what not, RachelGarrett should be channel owner/creator. Eyes and MatthewM could be Admins or fellow Owners. Keep in mind that the op permissions don't have to be the same as here. For more ops you could invite major contributors like Dukedom, he'd even make a good channel admin. I'm not too familiar with anyone else to suggest in that area. BrooklynKnight 00:44, 13 October 2011 (UTC)
- Ok, I have created "STOWiki.org". However, both "stowiki" and "Wiki" already exist, but only have two users each. I'd say we promote Wiki admins to channel admins and experienced Wiki users to operators. Regards, --RachelGarrett 10:47, 13 October 2011 (UTC)
- At BrooklynKnight's advice, I created the "stowiki" global chat channel many months ago so that someone not affiliated with the website wouldn't claim it. --MatthewM 13:33, 13 October 2011 (UTC)
- Good call MatthewM! Long time no see, guys :) I've been busy IRL lately. I dont have a huge amount of spare time, but I'm feeling the urge to return to STO. I'll try to be on the chat channel as much as I can. I'll try to continue contributing the the wiki itself, too. --Zutty 15:25, 13 October 2011 (UTC)
- Duke, Eyes and Myself are in "STOWiki" as it's a simpler name it just makes more sense. And Matt did reserve it earlier. He just needs to set up the ops then ya can make an announcement on the front page and invite people. BrooklynKnight 17:24, 13 October 2011 (UTC)
Both Faction MissionInfo Box[]
Hi all,
Was thinking about updating the missioninfo template so to have a both factions option. Missions that are available to both factions (like “The Vault”) are currently shown as 'Generic', which I dont think is very nice. What do you think to this...
User:Zutty/sandbox#Both_Faction_MissionInfo_Box
I quite the like the blue/red stripe, but I'd be willing to re-do it if other don't like it.
Thoughts? --Zutty 18:17, 15 October 2011 (UTC)
- I like the more subtile antique violet as neutral color. Looks better than the stripes, because they made reading harder. Regards, --RachelGarrett 09:03, 16 November 2011 (UTC)
