This skill improves your Starship's Critical Hit Chance and Critical Hit Severity with Energy Weapons such as beams, cannons and turrets. Your Critical Hit Chance determines your chance to deal additional damage to a target with any attack. Your Critical Hit Severity value determines the extent of the additional damage dealt.

Starship Energy Weapon Specialization is a Tier 5 Tactical skill available to all Starfleet and KDF Admirals. Each increment of this skill costs 3,000 skillpoints.

This skill improves your Starship's Critical Hit Chance and Critical Hit Severity with Energy Weapons such as beams, cannons and turrets. Your Critical Hit Chance determines your chance to deal additional damage to a target with any attack. Your Critical Hit Severity value determines the extent of the additional damage dealt.
Engineering Captains who learn 6 ranks of this skill unlock the ability to train Bridge Officers in Directed Energy Modulation III.

- Effective DPS increase calculated from base critical chance of 2.5% and critical severity of 50%. Bonuses from abilities, accuracy overflow, and weapon modifiers can significantly elevate the effective DPS increase. In practice, this necessitates the use of Attack Pattern Alpha to enhance base critical chance, immobilizing abilities such as Tractor Beam, Gravity Well, and Target Engines Subsystems to increase accuracy overflow, and possibly the use of Antiproton weapons for additional critical severity. Without a separate means to boost critical hit chance, the benefits of this skill will be very limited.
