Starship Hull Plating is a Tier 4 Engineering skill available to all Starfleet and KDF Captains. Each increment of this skill costs 2,500 skillpoints.

Details[]

This skill improves your Starship's resistance to Energy damage - for instance, the damage from beam, cannon and turret weapons. It will not affect Kinetic damage (damage from Mines/Torpedoes). More specifically, this skill increases your damage resistance magnitude, instead of increasing the damage resistance directly.

Abilities Affected[]

Abilities that increase damage resistance magnitude or damage resistance stack with this skill. Unfortunately, because damage resistance suffers from diminishing returns, the actual damage resistance may be significantly less than expected.

Items Affected[]

In addition to abilities, items that increase damage resistance magnitude or damage resistance also stack with this skill. Unfortunately, because damage resistance suffers from diminishing returns, the actual damage resistance may be significantly less than expected.

Rank Progression[]

Rank Bonus DRM Base DR Base + Accolade DR
1 +18 2.7 2.6% 4.5%
2 +36 5.4 5.1% 6.9%
3 +54 8.1 7.5% 9.2%
4 +64 9.6 8.8% 10.4%
5 +74 11.1 10.0% 11.6%
6 +84 12.6 11.2% 12.7%
7 +89 13.35 11.8% 13.3%
8 +94 14.1 12.3% 13.8%
9 +99 14.85 12.9% 14.4%

Terms[]

  • Base DR - The amount of damage resistance given by the skill if no other devices, consoles, skills, abilities, or accolades are modifying the character's DRM.
  • Base + Accolade DR - The amount of damage resistance given by the skill and associated damage receiving accolade if no other devices, consoles, skills, or abilities are modifying the character's DRM.

Note: The damage resistance magnitude is what stacks here, not the damage resistance.

Notes[]

  • Each bonus point increases the DRM (Damage Resistance Magnitude) for all energy damage types by the amount of the bonus divided by 20 and multiplied by 3. At rank 6, for example, the DRM will increase to 12.6 (84/20*3). Before investing heavily in this skill, it is advisable to experiment with Armor Consoles because DR (Damage Resistance) suffers from diminishing returns as DRM increases. So, if you equip 4 Neutronium Alloy MXII Very Rare consoles (+80 DRM), the added benefit of maxing out this skill only provides an additional 3.2% DR (+80+14.85 DRM = 46.3% DR verses +80 DRM = 43.1% DR).
  • The Damage Receiving Accolades for energy weapons will add an additional 2 DRM (not 2% DR).
  • The Starship Threat Control skill also stacks with this skill.
  • The counterpart to this skill is the Starship Armor Reinforcements which increases kinetic DRM instead of energy DRM.
