Formerly Crown Prince of the Gorn Hegemony, Slathis ascended the throne as King upon the death of his father, Xrathis, in 2386. Upon his ascension, Slathis' first act was to reinforce the Gorn-Klingon border.
Conflicts With Klingons[]
In 2389, conflict between the Gorn Hegemony and the Klingon Empire over the Gamma Orionis System led King Slathis to negotiate a contract between the Gorn and the Nausicaans, granting the Nausicaans rights to several asteroid belts in Gorn space, among other forms of payment, in exchange for Nausicaan military support against the Klingons. An attempt to make similar arrangements with the Letheans fails.
From 2389 to 2399, a cold war exists between the two powers until Ja'rod, Captain of the I.K.S. Kang, provides the Klingon High Council with proof of Undine infiltration of the Gorn to support an escalation to full-scale war. This war ends in 2403 when King Slathis surrenders to Klingon General Klag. After the surrender is official, King Slathis meets with Chancellor J'mpok and is presented the proof from Ja'rod. Part of the meeting involves public execution of the Undine infiltrators being broadcast throughout the Hegemony. The lives of King Slathis and his family are spared, however, and in exchange for a pledge of loyalty to the Klingon Empire, Slathis is allowed to keep his throne and maintain self-rule of the Hegemony in addition to being granted a non-voting seat on the Klingon High Council.
Involvement in the Third Federation-Klingon War[]
Two years later, in 2405, King Slathis uses the Gorn/Nausicaan agreements of 2389 as the basis for a non-aggression pact between the Nausicaans and the Klingon Empire.
Notes[]
- Despite Slathis having a seat on the Klingon High Council, he is not present in the Great Hall at any time.
