The following documentation is transcluded from Template:Factioninfo/doc (edit):

This template can be used as a standardized infobox for factions and species (the latter being amended for)

Variables

name
Official Name of the Faction (i.e. United Federation of Planets, rather than Federation or Starfleet)
faction
Faction ID for the infobox, i.e. Klingon or Kentari
status
Playable Faction, NPC Faction, Sub-faction (e.g. Gorn, Vulcan, Orion), Mentioned Species (non appearing in game, but mentioned in missions)
species
List max 3 of the most notable species, not an exhaustive list. This is not automatically linked so you can link individual species if you wish.
quadrant
The main home quadrant of the species in-game, even if they operate in more than one. This is automatically linked.
origin
The planet the species evolved on. This is automatically linked.
related
Other species they are directly related to (e.g. Vulcans and Romulans, Andorians and Aenar)
capital
Location of most if its government. This is automatically linked.
political_system
If available, go by what Memory Alpha or Beta says unless STO canon has significantly diverged.
allegiance
If subject to a larger power
foreign_policy
Their in-game role
leader
Their main political leader, so J'mpok rather than Khaless (head of government over head of state). This isn't linked so clarification can be added (i.e. Gaul's death)
alliance_relations
Put Member if they're confirmed, friendly if they allied but not "Alliance", antagonistic if their role is mostly that of an enemy for the player (not Iconian servitors if applicable). This is auto-linked to the Alliance article for clarification to the user.
playability
e.g.: Player and Bridge Officer, Bridge Officer (KDF)
traits
unique or required traits to players or bridge officers that help define the species
imagepeople
Use an image showing average people in the faction - doesn't have to include every variety.
peoplecap
Default caption is "Citizens of (faction)"
imageships
Use an image showing typical ship design.
shipscap
Default caption is "Starships of (faction)"
